We’ve fully closed the books on 2024 and as promised, here are the Top 100 records sold during the year from the Vinyl Underground record loft in Northampton, UK.

So as expected, the US sound is strong, particularly in Chicago and Detroit house music. Many of our favourite artists feature; Ron Trent's output has been excellent (including a trio of incredible Sacred Medicine 12's), a welcome return to regular releases from Abacus, the Los Hermanos crew taking their Detroit Techno soul sound even further as more and more customers pick up the latest goods, with new releases and represses selling equally well.

Also, often topping the sales charts through the year are the disco, jazz funk & leftfield cuts. Whether it be a fresh edit of a classic (or sometimes not so fresh!), a wonderful unearthed little known gem given a new life, or a new productions from the likes of Spaces Grapes, our DJ's and vinyl collectors have been all over them.

The Disco edit world is still as strong as ever, but nowadays we want the bizarre and obscure just as much the classic. EP's featuring or influenced from a more leftfield world have been some of our favourites. For example the Kim Yaffa EP with the Nick the Record & Dan Tyler Edit was a big 2024 surprise, obscure Balearic pop from 1989 sounding great today. That leads on to productions from the likes of Quiet Village & Jura Soundsystem flying out the door, along with their remixes.

Techno and Electronic music generally has been building nicely this year, more and more artists and buyers are crossing in between genres - stalwarts like Convextion and of course labels like Underground Resistance (get those represses ready pls!), to new explorations from the likes of Puli (the wonderful Swirling LP) and the Nduja camp. One thing we have seen is more tougher warehouse techno moving, 90's influences into fresh styles, and of course the original trance influence is everywhere!

Tech House and Minimal 12's have been hot, with a more hand picked selection, and most sit just outside the Top 100, but the Repeat label with Retrospective EP's from the likes of Terry Francis, and producers like Steve Huerta and Philip Chernikov (Tip - big EP dropped just at end of the year, more coming!) have been flying out.

This list also does not include many limited records that sold out too quickly, never to be seen again - we would have to do another list for them - the "2024 overheated White Label" list maybe.

Its just good music!

2024 was a strong one, thanks to everyone making and buying the music - keep the quality high, the reasons right and the passion will continue - VU will always be your first line of defence.
